23 January 2007  |
Utopia Optics' Jared Graves hit yet another pinnacle in his racing career... however, this time in a different sport! Although Jared is known for his vast BMX skills, his profession is in the sport of Mountain Bike racing. The two sports share similarities, however it is extremely difficult to be proficient at both sports simultaneously. Click here to check out the video! This past weekend, Jared bested one of the world best BMX racers at his own game... & his own race for that matter. The highly anticipated international "Bubba Harris Invitational Challenge" took place at Australia’s infamous Nerang track. The race definitely lived up to all of the pre-hype and left spectators in attendance shaking their heads in amazement. As the gate slammed down, Jared took the lead immediate lead. The Aussie crowd went nuts as the pros flew down the 2nd straightaway into the pro rhythm section. Graves definitely showed his skills and power and did a great job at holding off the ABA Champ. Bubba had to take every trick in his book to gain some ground. Entering the last turn, Bubba Harris came along side Jared for a traditional drag race to the finish line. By this time, the crowd was all on their feet and yelling for the home-countryman to hold on. They were practically grip-to-grip as they crossed the line, with both contenders pushing at the line for an advantage. Jared Graves takes the victory! For the folks who may not follow BMX, beating Bubba Harris is a huge accomplishment; as Bubba is one of the most dominate BMX racers out there right now. Bubba was the 2005 BMX World Champion and the ABA #1 AA Pro for 2004, 2005, and 2006. It sounds like Jared might just be making his bid for a spot on the Australian BMX Olympic team in 2008! Way to go Jared!!! www.utopiaoptics.com
